WINTHROP NAMES SOLOMON A. TORRES, LNHA, FACHE, VICE PRESIDENT, ADMINISTRATION


Solomon A. Torres, LNHA, FACHE
Mineola, NY – Winthrop-University Hospital is pleased to announce the appointment of Solomon A. Torres, LNHA, FACHE, to the position of Vice President, Administration. In this role, Mr. Torres provides administrative leadership for several key clinical areas of the Hospital including Surgery, Cardiology, Thoracic and Cardiovascular (TCV) Surgery, Orthopaedics, Urology and Anesthesia.

As a senior healthcare executive with over 25 years of experience in a wide range of academic medical centers and community hospital operations, Mr. Torres is a welcome addition to the Winthrop administration. His extensive knowledge of senior management of hospitals, academic departments, physician practices plans and business development make him a valuable asset to Winthrop.

Prior to joining Winthrop, Mr. Torres served as the Director of Operations for the NewYork-Presbyterian Healthcare System where he was responsible for creating and implementing physician alignment strategies and business development for the System’s 28 member institutions. Prior to this role, Mr. Torres held several senior management positions at academic medical centers in New York City including serving as the Chief Financial Officer for the Department of Surgery at Columbia University Medical Center; Vice President and Site Administrator at Beth Israel Medical Center – Singer Division; and Director of Operations at New-York Presbyterian Columbia University Medical Center.

Mr. Torres is a licensed Nursing Home Administrator (LNHA), a board certified healthcare executive and a Fellow of the American College of Healthcare Executives (FACHE). A member of the ACHE Regent’s Advisory Committee, Mr. Torres was named Junior Healthcare Executive of the Year in 1999 and Senior Healthcare Executive of the Year Award in 2007 by the ACHE’s New York Regional Chapter. He also serves on the Columbia University Mailman School of Public Health Curriculum Advisory Committee and as treasurer of Prescription for Hope – a non-profit organization dedicated to providing modern, culturally competent pharmacy services in Africa.

Mr. Torres earned his Bachelor of Science degree from Rutgers University and his Master of Public Administration in Healthcare Management from New York University Wagner School of Public Administration. He currently resides in Hartsdale, NY, with his wife Wendy. They have two sons, Jonathan and Andrew.
