Barry Dworkin, Manager of Mineola Bicycle, Fitness and Mower; Nicole Almeida, Director of the Child Life Program at Winthrop; raffle winners William Jaye of Garden City and Maryanne Mannion of Oyster Bay; Ed Chewens, Administrative Director of the Children’s Medical Center at Winthrop; and Audrey Meinking, owner of Mineola Bicycle, Fitness and Mower.
Mineola, NY – Local residents William Jaye of Garden City and Maryanne Mannion of Oyster Bay were named winners in Mineola Bicycle, Fitness and Mower’s “Mountain Bike Raffle Extravaganza,” a raffle recently held by the store to raise money to benefit the Child Life Program at The Children’s Medical Center at Winthrop-University Hospital. Both Mr. Jaye and Ms. Mannion were elated to learn that they had won bicycles through the raffle, which received a tremendous response from the local community as well as Hospital visitors and staff. Ms. Mannion, who is a member of the Clinical Practice Billing Systems department at Winthrop, made the extraordinarily generous decision to donate the bicycle she won to a needy child from the community.

“This is the second year that Mineola Bicycle, Fitness and Mower’s has been so generous in helping us raise funds for Winthrop’s Child Life Program,” said Nicole Almeida, MS, CCLS, Director of the Child Life Program at Winthrop. “They are extremely supportive and we cannot thank them enough for all that they continue to do for us.”

Through the purchase of raffle tickets, participants had the opportunity to enter their name into a random drawing to win one of two mountain bicycles generously donated by the store. Proceeds from the raffle support Winthrop’s Child Life Program through which certified child life specialists utilize play and education to improve patients’ understanding of medical procedures, teach relaxation techniques to help the patients cope with illness or surgery, and provide emotional support for the entire family.
