Prior to joining Winthrop, Dr. Jacobson directed the Behavioral Research and Clinical Mental Health Programs at the Joslin Diabetes Center – an affiliate of Harvard Medical School. He also served as a Professor of Psychiatry at Harvard Medical School and as Chief Medical Officer of the Joslin Clinic – a multi-specialty group practice that has helped revolutionize the diagnosis, treatment and prevention of diabetes.

Additionally, in 1998, Dr. Jacobson was named Senior Vice President and founding Director of the Strategic Initiatives Division at the Joslin Diabetes Center. For nine years, Dr. Jacobson managed a portfolio of businesses that included professional and patient education, franchised diabetes centers of excellence and disease management programs. Dr. Jacobson received his Bachelor of Arts from Yale University and his Medical Degree from the University of Chicago Medical School. His extensive research activities have focused on the psychological aspects of diabetes, on the impact of diabetes on the structure, chemistry and function of the central nervous system and the development of improved methods of care. His research studies have been continuously funded by National Institutes of Health for the past 35 years and he is the author of over 190 publications.

Dr. Jacobson resides in Westbury, NY.

Research at Winthrop is focused on three major themes that comprise today’s most urgent healthcare challenges: diabetes and cardiometabolic syndrome; infant prematurity and perinatal conditions; and chronic disease and aging.
