Paul and Terrie Magro of the Michael Magro Foundation visit the Pediatric Endoscopy Suite at Winthrop-University Hospital, where they funded the painting of a custom sky-scape mural on the ceiling of the procedure room to help soothe pediatric patients undergoing endoscopy procedures and child-friendly decorations for the Pediatric Endoscopy Recovery Room (background, group photo). Pictured are, back row (l.-r.) Mary Holden, RN; Robert Hossach, RN, Assistant Nurse Manager, Endoscopy; Warren Rosenfeld, MD, Chairman, Department of Pediatrics; Tuvia Marciano, D.O., Director, Pediatric Endoscopy; Terrie and Paul Magro of the Michael Magro Foundation; Keith McDowell, Patient Care Associate. Front row, Rosanne Brennan, RN; Sally Teich, CGRN; Deborah Blackman, PCA; Nicole Almeida, Director, Child Life Program; Farrah Lazare, MD, Pediatric Gastroenterologist. Winthrop’s McCann Endoscopy Center offers a variety of highly sophisticated upper and lower endoscopic procedures for children and adults, and staff at the Center are specially trained in care of the pediatric patient. The Michael Magro Foundation, which was established by Terrie and Paul Magro of Hicksville in honor of their son Michael, who they lost to leukemia in 2004, is dedicated to easing the burdens of illness on children and their families. By arranging to have the ceiling in the Pediatric Endoscopy Suite painted with a tranquil view of the night sky, the Magros have made endoscope procedures for children less stressful by giving them something soothing to focus on. |
