Mineola, NY - Further addressing the special health needs of patients living with digestive disorders, Winthrop-University Hospital recently opened the new McCann Endoscopy Center, an expanded facility with advanced technology to perform endoscopic ultrasound, a state-of-the-art technique that combines endoscopy and ultrasound to permit visualization of the pancreas and other deep-seated organs, as well as the diagnosis and staging of certain lung and gastrointestinal tumors.

Winthrop's specialists perform colonoscopies with unparalleled precision, enabling them to visualize and remove polyps in the colon that may eventually become cancerous. Through endoscopic ultrasound they can diagnose and stage with extraordinary accuracy certain lung and gastrointestinal tumors. They also use the technology to perform fine-needle aspiration for biopsies and provide pain relief for many pancreatic cancer patients.
