On Friday, September 24, Mary Beth and Christopher Tully of Garden City will host a Committee Kick-Off Cocktail Reception for Winthrop-University Hospital’s 2010 Yuletide Ball. New participants, as well as longtime supporters of the fundraiser, are invited to celebrate the launch of the event’s annual planning.

Winthrop’s Yuletide Ball is a popular local gathering for Garden City residents, as it raises crucial funds in support of Winthrop’s Child Life Program while providing community members with an opportunity to attend an elegant evening of live music, fine dining and dancing at the home of a local Garden City family during the holiday season. This year’s Yuletide Ball will take place on Saturday, December 11 at the home of John and Liz Durand, and will feature a festive cocktail party-style atmosphere in an elegant lounge-like setting.

Winthrop’s Child Life Program is dedicated to helping children understand and cope with the hospital experience. Certified Child Life Specialists utilize therapeutic play, arts and crafts, entertainment and other diversions to ensure that the hospital experience is as stress-free as possible for children and their families. Child Life Specialists are available in the Hospital’s Pediatric Emergency Unit, the Cancer Center for Kids, the Pediatric Specialty Center and the Hagedorn Pediatric Inpatient Center.

If you would like to attend the Kick-Off Reception on September 24 and become involved with Winthrop’s Yuletide Ball Committee, or for more information about the Yuletide Ball, please call Maria Kavan, Development Associate at Winthrop, at (516) 663-3398 or email
