GREAT NECK FUN RUN/WALK RAISES NEARLY $24,000 FOR WINTHROP’S CANCER CENTER FOR KIDS

Mineola, NY – Parents, grandparents, children, marathoners, neighbors and friends gathered at Jonathan L. Ielpi Park in Great Neck, NY, on May 2, 2010 for the 9th Annual Great Neck 5K Family Fun Run/Walk to benefit the Cancer Center for Kids (CCFK) at Winthrop-University Hospital – Nassau County’s largest outpatient facility for treating children with cancer and blood disorders. Together, more than 200 community-spirited Long Islanders, including Hospital staff, volunteers, the Village of Great Neck Plaza Mayor, the Honorable Jean A. Celender, and major event sponsor Arlene Lavitt of Super Enterprises, helped raise close to $24,000 for the CCFK’s psychosocial programs.

The 9th Annual Great Neck 5K Family Fun Run/Walk featured entertainment by Glenn Schifano and His Boy Elroy Band, refreshments, crafts for children and a fitness break with Bonda Yoga of Great Neck. In addition, WCBS Radio’s Sophia Hall welcomed participants and helped emcee the post-event prize and award ceremony. Elizabeth Urbanski, Development Specialist at the CCFK, gratefully acknowledged the work of the Village of Great Neck Plaza, the Great Neck Parks District, Great Neck South High School and Middle School and all of the volunteers whose vital contributions made this year’s event an outstanding success.
