WINTHROP-UNIVERSITY HOSPITAL CELEBRATES NATIONAL MEDICAL LABORATORY PROFESSIONALS WEEK
Mineola, NY – Winthrop-University Hospital was pleased to recognize the vital contributions of its highly skilled team of Medical Laboratory Professionals during National Medical Laboratory Professionals Week, April 18-24, 2010. This year’s theme was “Laboratory Professionals Get Results” and among the highlights of the weeklong celebration, which included special activities and educational materials aimed at increasing the public’s understanding of the critical roles of clinical laboratory personnel, was the delivery of a proclamation by Mineola Mayor Jack Martins. Mayor Martins commended Winthrop’s Clinical Laboratory Science Professionals for the critical work they carry out each day which greatly assists in the detection, diagnosis, treatment and prevention of disease.
“This week of recognition and celebration is also an opportunity to acknowledge our Laboratory’s greatest resource, which of course, is our staff,” said Richard Rivera, Assistant Vice President, Administration at Winthrop.
National Medical Laboratory Professionals Week is a special time of recognition for the approximately 265,000 medical laboratory professionals and 15,000 board-certified pathologists who play a vital role in healthcare in the United States. At Winthrop, Pathologists, Pathologists’ Assistants, Clinical Laboratory Technologists, Technicians, Histotechs, Cytotechs, Phlebotomists, Lab Assistants, Secretarial and Clerical support play a critical role in the Anatomic and Clinical Divisions of the Department of Pathology and provide essential clinical information to healthcare providers.
