WINTHROP’S 13TH ANNUAL OPERA NIGHT HITS A HIGH NOTE – EVENT RAISES RECORD-BREAKING FUNDS
Mineola, NY – In an overwhelming show of support for Winthrop-University Hospital’s Child Life Program, almost 300 guests gathered at the Garden City Hotel on March 11, 2010 for an evening of fine dining and an incredible musical performance by internationally renowned vocalist Ronan Tynan. The 13th Annual Night at the Opera was Winthrop’s most successful Opera Night yet – raising nearly $100,000 for an extraordinary program that is dedicated to minimizing children’s fears and anxiety during the hospital experience.
Guests enjoyed a lovely cocktail hour and sit-down dinner as the magnificent vocals of Mr. Tynan filled the room. What’s more, attendees had an opportunity to participate in an exciting raffle and silent auction, featuring beautiful items donated by local vendors.
Proceeds from the evening support Winthrop’s Child Life Program through which certified child life specialists utilize play and education to improve patients’ understanding of medical procedures, teach relaxation techniques to help the young patients cope with illness or surgery, and provide emotional support for the entire family.
“I am touched by the outpouring of support for Winthrop’s Child Life Program,” said Warren Rosenfeld, MD, Chairman of Pediatrics at Winthrop. “This program is a vital component of the comprehensive pediatric care that patients receive at Winthrop, and my heartfelt thanks go out to all of the devoted supporters whose generous contributions and continuing support enable the Child Life team to meet the unique psychosocial needs of our pediatric patients and their families.”
