“Ask the Expert” Free Lecture April 7th

Mineola, NY – Winthrop-University Hospital’s Institute for Cancer Care, together with the I’m Too Young For This! Cancer Foundation i[2]y, are collaborating on an innovative cancer patient support program to commemorate the 8th annual National Young Adult Cancer Awareness Week.

On Wednesday, April 7, 2010, at 7:00 PM, Winthrop will present “Ask the Expert,” a special event that invites young adult cancer patients and survivors ages 18 to 39, and their caregivers, to meet with and ask questions of Jeffrey Schneider, MD, Medical Oncologist at Winthrop. The event will be held at Winthrop’s Community Outreach Center located at 101 Mineola Boulevard at the corner of Second Street in Mineola.

“It is an honor to be a part of an event such as this,” said Dr. Schneider. “As a medical oncologist who treats young adults affected by cancer every day, I look forward not only to providing information and answering their questions, but also to learning from them. The insight we hope to gain from this special evening can only serve to improve best practices for the care and treatment of this underserved population.”

The I’m Too Young for This Cancer Foundation has brought the cause of “cancer under 40” to the national spotlight and rallied a new generation of activists to improve early detection, advocacy, research and support. Matthew Zachary, Founder/CEO of the Foundation and a 14-year cancer survivor who was diagnosed at the age of 21, said “The relationship between doctor and patient is an entirely under-recognized component of quality care. Contributing to the genesis of an event like this exemplifies the change we need to see for young adults living with, through and beyond their diagnosis and treatment.”

Admission to this event is free, but seating is limited and reservations are required. Parking and the entrance are available in the rear of the building.
