WINTHROP-UNIVERSITY HOSPITAL NAMES GARRY J. SCHWALL, MBA, RPA, CHIEF OPERATING OFFICER
Mineola, NY – Garry J. Schwall, MBA, RPA, has been named Chief Operating Officer (COO) of Winthrop-University Hospital. Among his diverse responsibilities as COO, Mr. Schwall is responsible for the day-to-day leadership for the operations of Winthrop and overseeing the general business management of the hospital.
An integral member of the Winthrop leadership team for more than a decade, Mr. Schwall most recently served as Vice President of the Heart Institute. In this role, Mr. Schwall worked closely with the Hospital’s medical faculty and senior management team to implement and support current and emerging clinical programs designed to provide Winthrop patients with the latest diagnosis and treatment options. Mr. Schwall also provided directional leadership for several Winthrop departments including General Surgery, Orthopaedic Surgery, and Anesthesiology, as well as the Urology Division, the Institute for Neurosciences and Winthrop’s renowned CyberKnife Radiosurgery Center.
Mr. Schwall joined Winthrop in 1993 as Administrative Director of Physician Assistant and Nurse Practitioner Services. Since then, he has held various positions within Winthrop’s senior administration, always applying his keen sense of business with clinical experience as a Physician Assistant to further the development and continued success of various Hospital programs.
Passionate about achieving excellence in education, Mr. Schwall also serves as an adjunct faculty member for the Physician Assistant Programs at both Touro College and Stony Brook University. He is also deeply involved with a number of professional organizations including the New York State Society of Physicians Assistants, where he served on many committees and as the Society’s past president, and the American Academy of Physician Assistants, for which he served as a New York delegate. Additionally, Mr. Schwall currently serves as a board member for the New York State’s Office of Professional Medical Conduct.
A veteran of the U.S. Air Force, Mr. Schwall is a graduate of the St. John’s University Physician Assistant Program and holds a Master of Business Administration degree from Dowling College.
Mr. Schwall resides in Blue Point, NY, with his wife Barbara. They have two sons, Ryan and Trevor. # # #
