FIDELITY INVESTMENTS SUPPORTS HORTICULTURAL THERAPY PROGRAM AT WINTHROP

Mineola, NY- Winthrop-University Hospital’s Child Life Program recently received a $5,000 donation from Fidelity Investments to sponsor a year-long weekly horticultural therapy program in the Hospital’s Hagedorn Pediatric Inpatient Center and at the Cancer Center for Kids Outpatient Center.

The horticultural therapy program enables pediatric patients to enjoy hands-on activities working with plants and connecting with nature. Under the guidance of horticultural consultant, Donna N. Arabian, patients enjoy the opportunity to get involved in group planting sessions; creating seasonal projects; or taking lessons in plant propagation and flower arranging.

“The horticultural therapy program is a great outlet for patients to release some stress while participating in unique and fun activities,” said Nicole Almeida, CCLS, MS, Director of Winthrop’s Child Life Program. “The program creates special memories for our patients, and we deeply appreciate Fidelity Investments’ commitment to making it possible.”
