WINTHROP’S CANCER CENTER FOR KIDS RECEIVES $10,000 DONATION FROM JAY’S WORLD CHILDHOOD CANCER FOUNDATION INC.
Mineola, NY – On behalf of the Jay’s World Childhood Cancer Foundation Inc., Executive Director Ralph Napolitano recently made a $10,000 donation to the Cancer Center for Kids (CCFK) at Winthrop-University Hospital in support of the Center’s mission to provide patients with hope and healing.
In 1994, after Ralph and Mary Ann Napolitano’s son, Jason (“Jay”), was diagnosed with leukemia, the Napolitanos, along with neighborhood friends, created The Jay’s World Childhood Cancer Foundation. Since then, The Foundation has been an ardent supporter of Winthrop-University Hospital and the CCFK. Jay, who is now 30 years old, successfully battled the disease with the help of Mark Weinblatt, MD, Chief of the Division of Pediatric Hematology/Oncology at Winthrop and Director of the Cancer Center for Kids.
To date, the Foundation has contributed close to $600,000 to Winthrop – which funded the creation of The Jay’s World Children’s Cancer Unit in Winthrop’s Hagedorn Pediatric Inpatient Center and the complete blood count (CBC) Laboratory at the CCFK, and has supported Winthrop’s clinical pediatric oncology programs.
The CCFK provides superior medical treatment in a caring, nurturing environment. The Center and The Jay’s World Childhood Cancer Foundation share a common vision – to do everything possible to help children and their families cope with a cancer diagnosis.
