WINTHROP OFFERS INFORMATIVE EVENT FOR COMMUNITY PHYSICIANS
Mineola, NY – In a demonstration of its commitment to improving the quality, safety and efficiency of healthcare delivery, Winthrop-University Hospital, in collaboration with the e-Health Network of Long Island – a Regional Health Information Organization, was pleased to host a Community Physician Electronic Health Record (EHR) Vendor Fair at on December 16. The Fair was attended by local physicians eager to learn about the meaningful use of EHRs to facilitate the delivery of care.
Throughout the evening, attendees met with representatives from leading industry vendors including Health Unity, Workflow.com, Cerner and Flexible Systems to learn about their high quality products – all of which are compatible with Winthrop’s fully integrated hospital-wide EHR system. Physicians also had the opportunity to hear presentations and ask questions about the advantages of utilizing this vital piece of health information technology.
Even the federal government has thrown its support – and dollars – behind the broad use of EHR systems.
“The American Recovery and Reinvestment Act, which was signed into law in February 2009 by President Obama, provides opportunities for both hospitals and physician practices to obtain stimulus dollars to support implementation of health information technology,” said Maureen Gaffney, RN, RPAC, Chief Medical Information Officer at Winthrop. “Thanks to Winthrop’s progressive vision to build a safer healthcare environment with the implementation of Computerized Provider Order Entry and development of an Electronic Health Record, we will meet the eligibility criteria and will be in a good position to be eligible for stimulus funds.”
“The EHR Fair was a great success,” said Faisal Zakaria, Associate Director of Information Technology at Winthrop. “Attendees were engaged with the vendors and other hospital staff in learning about EHR and meaningful use. We look forward to hosting another valuable learning opportunity for physicians in the future.”
The next EHR Vendor Fair is set for January 28 at Winthrop. Registration is free; physicians interested in attending should call (516) 663-2830 to register.
