GARDEN CITY RESIDENTS RAISE NEARLY $90,000 FOR PEDIATRIC SERVICES AT WINTHROP

Mineola, NY – On a very cold December day, close to 100 Garden City residents and friends of Winthrop-University Hospital gathered under a heated tent at the Garden City home of Edward and Terri McNally to raise nearly $90,000 for Winthrop-University Hospital’s Child Life Program and pediatric services.

Winthrop’s Yuletide get-together is a popular holiday tradition for Garden City residents, giving community members an opportunity to attend an elegant evening of dining and dancing as they kick off the December holiday season and raise money for a worthy cause.

Proceeds of the Yuletide Ball benefit Winthrop’s comprehensive Child Life Program, through which specially trained Child Life Specialists help children understand and cope with the stress of hospitalization. The caring and highly trained staff use therapeutic play, arts and crafts, entertainment and other diversions, to ensure that the hospital experience is as stress-free as possible for children and their families. Child Life Specialists are available in Winthrop’s Pediatric Emergency Unit, the Cancer Center for Kids, Pediatric Specialty Center and the Hospital’s Hagedorn Pediatric Inpatient Center.
