WINTHROP'S THIRD ANNUAL HEART HEALTH SYMPOSIUM
Winthrop-University Hospital’s Institute for Heart Care will hold its third annual Women’s Heart Health Symposium on Thursday, February 5, 2009. The program will be held from 6:00 PM to 9:00 PM at Winthrop’s Community Outreach Center, 101 Mineola Boulevard, at the corner of Second Street in Mineola.
This year’s symposium will feature a multicultural indoor street festival hosted by healthcare professionals from Winthrop’s Institute for Heart Care. The theme, “A Woman’s Heart…On a Street Where You Live,” will offer a fun and relaxed atmosphere for women to learn heart healthy lifestyle choices with an emphasis on total well being.
Kevin Marzo, MD, Chief of the Division of Cardiology, will give a talk on heart health and nutrition, “Heart Healthy Eating on Bourbon Street.” Cooking demonstrations of heart healthy meals from a variety of cultures, strategies for reducing risk, heart healthy food samples, and stress management techniques will be included.
Although heart disease is the leading cause of death in women, research has shown that women can modify or treat their risk factors to reduce their risk, and significantly lower their chances of developing heart disease. Winthrop’s Division of Cardiology is committed to educating woman about making smart choices now that could improve their health in the future.
Parking and the entrance are available at the rear of the Outreach Center. Additional parking is available at the 120 Mineola Boulevard garage (entrance on First Street).
Admission is free, but space is limited. Reservations are required. To reserve your space, please call 1-866-WINTHROP. For further information, please e-mail firstname.lastname@example.org# # #
