Welcome to NYU Winthrop! Please help us to make your transition a flawless one by submitting the "Required Forms" and materials, as indicated below. 1. Payroll Processing Forms/Human Resources Deadline: Friday, April 7th

In order to start the NYU Winthrop Hospital hiring process you will need to create a profile in our electronic employment system.

  1. Please go to the following link: http://www.winthrop.org/current-listings
  2. Click on the login button
  3. Go to the Create a New User Account section and Create your profile

Helpful Hints

  • Enter the email you check regularly, IMPORTANT hiring communication will occur via this email
  • Be prepared to upload your resume
  • Make sure you record the answers to your account challenge questions
  • You only need to complete the sections with a red asterisk
  • In the box regarding "salary requirements" please respond with "12345". (this is not relevant to your position, but the system requires a response)

Within 2 weeks of creating your profile you will receive your New Hire Packet and instructions to complete your employee health screening.

All Staff: You will also need to provide original supporting documentation for the I-9 Form before commencing employment (no copies please!). Acceptable documentation is outlined on the second page of the I-9 Form provided in the New Hire Packet. Documents can be brought to Human Resources- M-F, 8:00am-4:00pm, in the Professional Residence Building.

International Staff: Please be advised, per IRS regulations you will not be able to begin working until you are assigned a valid social security number. We ask that you put forth your best effort to arrive early in order to complete this requirement. If you encounter any issues contact your Human Resources representative and the Office of Academic Affairs immediately.


2. Housing Department Information/Forms Deadline: Friday, April 14th

NYU Winthrop provides its house staff with subsidized housing in a number of apartment complexes and houses in close proximity to the hospital. Assignment of NYU Winthrop housing is made by the Housing Coordinator, Jeanne Schiek, based on the individual housing needs of the residents, as indicated in the House Staff Housing Application form (below).  If the Housing Coordinator determines that an individual resident’s housing needs cannot be accommodated in NYU Winthrop housing, a live-off allowance may be offered to the resident in lieu of housing. Should housing be provided, it is not guaranteed to be available BEFORE orientation.

Please download, print out, review and complete the housing forms below only if you are in need of housing, and return to the Housing Coordinator by April 14th.

As per the Rules of Occupancy you will be required to obtain renter’s insurance for the specific unit assigned to you.

You may obtain renters insurance from the company of your choice or NYU Winthrop Hospital has an affiliation with an insurance company that you may use to get discounted rates see contact info below. You must provide our housing department proof of renters insurance within 10 days of your lease start date.

Pertinent Information

A. Orientation

Day 1: Tuesday, June 27, 2017 8:00am to 4:00pm (registration is between 8:00am-9:00am) and

Day 2: Thursday, June 29, 2017 8:30am to 6:00pm

You are required to attend both Day 1 and Day 2 of Orientation, exceptions are only for emergencies.  Business casual attire is appropriate.

Orientation will be held at NYU Winthrop’s Research & Academic Center, Conference Room G-18 located at 101 Mineola Blvd, Mineola, NY 11501.  Parking is available in the Visitor’s Parking Garage by the Emergency Room Entrance.

Please bring your original medical school diploma (and translation if applicable) to Orientation.  Academic Affairs representatives will collect diplomas during registration at Orientation and make an official copy for your NYU Winthrop file.  Please note: You may bring your diploma to Academic Affairs prior to Orientation between the hours of 8:30am - 4:30pm, Monday thru Friday.

B. ACLS/PALS/NRP

Listed below are the dates, attendance requirements and registration information for ACLS, PALS and NRP. Attendance is mandatory for the programs listed even if you have a current ACLS or PALS card from another institution.

The only exception to this rule is if you are enrolling in a one year program* (Dental, Geriatrics, IM prelim, Interventional Cardiology and Sleep Medicine), and you have a current AHA card that will not expire until after you have completed your NYU Winthrop program. In this case, you must notify Academic Affairs before April 14th so that your name can be removed from the registration list, and you must bring a copy of your ACLS card to Orientation to be copied for your file.


ACLS

Residents in the following training programs are required to become certified in ACLS upon entering their WUH training program and are required to maintain current certification throughout their training:

PALS

Residents in the following training programs are required to become certified in PALS upon entering their WUH training program and are required to maintain current certification throughout their training:

  • Pediatrics
  • Pediatric Endocrinology
  • Pediatric Pulmonology

NRP

Residents in Pediatrics and OB/GYN are also required to become certified in NRP upon entering their WUH training program and are required to maintain current certification throughout their training.


Registration

ACLS Registration

ACLS training will consist of 2 steps: Heartcode ACLS Online, the 6-7 hour computer based cognitive portion which you will take individually and Heartcode ACLS Hands-on, a combined 2 ½ hour Skills Practice and Skills Testing session at NYU Winthrop’s Research & Academic Center, Conference Room G: 018, 101 Mineola Blvd, Mineola, NY 11501.  The 2 ½ hour Hands-on Skills Practice and Testing session will take place on June 28th, in either a morning or afternoon session, and will alternate with MIS training during the other part of the day.

If you are an incoming resident/fellow in one of the programs that is on the mandatory list, you will be contacted in May via email by NYU Winthrop Community Training Center with your unique access key code for Heartcode ACLS Online (Please be sure that your residency coordinator has your correct current email address; it may have to be updated from what was listed in the ERAS applications.) The schedule with your assigned ACLS and MIS training sessions will be emailed to you.

PALS Registration

Contact Veronica Napoli, the Pediatrics residency coordinator, at (516) 663-8443 before May 12th to register for PALS.

PALS training will consist of 2 steps: Heartcode PALS Online, the computer based cognitive portion which you will take individually, and PALS Hands-on, a combined 8 hour Skills Practice and Skills Testing session at NYU Winthrop’s Research & Academic Center, Simulation Center, 101 Mineola Blvd, First Floor, Mineola, NY 11501. The 8 hour Hands-on Skills Practice and Testing session will take place on June 26th. She will advise you of the time to report for the program, and arrange for you to pick up the necessary materials for the course.

If you are an incoming resident/fellow in one of the programs that is on the mandatory list, you will be contacted in May via email by NYU Winthrop Community Training Center with your class confirmation for the PALS Hands-on session for June 26th. You will receive a second email with your unique access key code for Heartcode PALS Online course.  (Please be sure that your residency coordinator has your correct current email address; it may have to be updated from what was listed in the ERAS applications.)

Prerequisite: In order to register for ACLS or PALS you must provide evidence (American Heart Association Card which must be valid until July 2017) that you have completed an American Heart Association BLS course.  If you have not yet taken BLS, the American Heart Association can provide a listing of when and where it is offered. BLS is taken at your expense.

NYU Winthrop conducts BLS courses on a regular basis. Course completion cards will be issued immediately upon successful completion.


AHA BLS Initial course at NYU Winthrop

This is an all inclusive course with a written exam. No preparation is required. Register here.

  • ACLS/BLS - Email copies of your current BLS card and Heartcode ACLS Online course completion certificate
  • PALS/BLS - Email copies of your current BLS card and Heartcode PALS Online course completion certificate (for Residents in Pediatrics, Pediatric Endocrinology and Pediatric Pulmonology)

As a courtesy to all incoming house staff, NYU Winthrop Hospital will pay for all incoming ACLS, NRP and PALS classes. However, please understand that once you confirm your session for a class, a seat has been reserved for you, and therefore, if you do not attend, you will be charged the class fee.

C. MIS Training

Your training session on NYU Winthrop’s clinical computer system, including the Computerized Physician Order Entry (CPOE), will be integrated with your ACLS or PALS Training. The schedule for MIS training will be posted and emailed to you.

D. GTA Training

Listed below are the dates, times and location for the resident training session on the Gynecologic Teaching Associate Program. Attendance is mandatory for the following programs:

F. Contract

If you have not previously received your NYU Winthrop contract, it will be sent to you under separate cover.

G. Meal Allowance

House Staff are provided with complimentary meals up to a monetary cap as shown below in the hospital’s cafeteria or in the Lobby Café (when the cafeteria is closed). Any overages must be paid at the register at the time of purchase. Details on hours of operation are in your House Staff Manual.
