Winthrop | Donate : Annual Swimathon
Swimming for the benefit of children, 150 participants in Winthrop-University Hospitals 12th Annual Swim-A-Thon helped raise more than $45,000 for the Hospitals Child Life Program on April 21 at Hofstra Universitys Swim Center.
Participants enjoyed swim coaching by Joe Petrush from Total Immersion Swimming, music, raffles, crafts, massages, yoga and more. Proceeds from the event support Winthrops Child Life Program through which certified child life specialists utilize supervised play and education to improve patients understanding of medical procedures, teach relaxation techniques to help young patients cope with illness or surgery, and provide emotional support for the entire family. A vital program across the full spectrum of inpatient, outpatient and emergency services at Winthrop, Child Life is supported in its entirety by philanthropic contributions.
Every year, the enthusiasm for the Swimathon builds. We are grateful for the communitys support in making this event such a success; every lap goes a long way in supporting the unique services that Winthrop provides to thousands of sick children every year, said Ron Marino, DO, MPH, Associate Chairman and Director of General Pediatrics at Winthrop, and organizer of the annual fundraiser.
