A Memorable Evening at "The Great Picture Show"
Winthrop’s 2011 Gala Raises $835,000 to Benefit the Research Institute
Mineola, NY - Celebrating the evolution of motion pictures in the late 1920’s from silence to sound, over 750 friends and supporters of Winthrop-University Hospital gathered on October 22 at the 2011 Gala, “The Great Picture Show.” The evening, centered upon a tribute to the pioneers of motion picture comedy, drama and music, paid honor to two remarkable individuals and their contributions to Winthrop – Steven Carsons, MD, Chief of the Division of Rheumatology, Allergy and Immunology and Director of Clinical & Translational Research at Winthrop, and Theresa Patnode Santmann, a successful business woman, philanthropist and major benefactor of Winthrop’s research program.
“It is important that we honor those whose continued commitment and support to Winthrop allows us to be an institution that dedicates itself to compassionate care, state-of-the-science technology, cutting-edge research and excellence in medical education,” said John F. Collins, President and CEO of Winthrop-University Hospital. “Dr. Carsons and Theresa Patnode Santmann’s long-standing dedication to excellence in medicine and biomedical research make them both well deserving of Winthrop’s 2011 Streaming Star Award.”
The 2011 Gala was an outstanding success, raising nearly $835,000 in support of the Capital Building Fund and Endowment for the highly anticipated development of a visionary biomedical Research Institute at Winthrop.
