Millions of Americans suffer from chronic wounds stemming from diabetes, circulatory problems and complications following surgery. Poor nutrition, immobilization, ill-fitting footwear and certain medications can contribute to the problem and interfere with the wound-healing process. If left untreated or treated improperly, chronic wounds can grow larger, become infected, require hospitalization and increase the risk of permanent disability or limb loss.
