Winthrop-University Hospital is a New York State-Designated Regional Trauma Center – the highest designation in trauma care a hospital can receive. Winthrop’s Trauma Center includes a separate Pediatric Emergency Unit, a dedicated Cardiac Care/Chest Pain Unit, and a Fast-Track Unit for injuries such as cuts and falls that require stitches, x-rays or other uncomplicated treatment, and a designated Trauma Unit for treatment of acute, life-threatening injury or illness. Winthrop’s Regional Trauma Center offers in-house physician’s coverage 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, including a wide range of experienced specialists and access to advanced support services and use of state-of-the-science facilities. In addition to providing acutely injured and ill adults and children with the most advanced care to give them the best possible chance of survival and the fewest permanent disabilities, Winthrop’s Center teaches the latest trauma care techniques to healthcare professionals and conducts trauma prevention and education programs for the community.
