Cans for Cancer Program
How the cans for cancer initiative began....
How do you help children with cancer and help the environment as well? That was the project that the Cancer Center for Kids at Winthrop University Hospital wanted to get off the ground in order to make a difference!
The Cans for Cancer initiative became a reality in 2001 when a group of volunteers from the Center got together and started collecting all the cans and bottles they could get their hands on. Pretty soon it branched out to schools, corporations, restaurants, country clubs and anyone else who wanted to get involved. Presently, a year and a half later, the Program boasts about the collection of over 10,000 cans a week and how it is growing 
more every day.

Volunteers are needed for recycling events at Jones Beach Theater and Nassau Coliseum.
