Osteoporosis Diagnostic, Research and Treatment Center : About Us
Winthrop-University Hospital's Osteoporosis Diagnostic, Research and Treatment Center (ODRTC) is directed by John F. Aloia, MD, an internationally recognized expert in the field of osteoporosis, bone biology and calcium nutrition.
The Center offers a full range of services provided by highly trained and experienced professionals. In addition to using the latest diagnostic technology, they provide advanced treatment and information about prevention; they also conduct advanced research, bringing the latest treatment approaches to patient care long before results are published.
In addition, the Center's special services include the following:
Personal Nurse Counseling
The Center's certified, trained and highly experienced nurse clinicians perform one-on-one consultations, reviewing test results, lifestyle, risk factors and medical history. Following the consult, the nurse clinician collaborates with the Center's specialists or the patient's personal physician to develop a plan of osteoporosis prevention personally tailored to each patient's current situation. 516-663-2772
The Winthrop Osteoporosis Network (WON)
WON is the only osteoporosis support group in the greater New York/Long Island area. Affiliated with the National Osteoporosis Foundation, WON meets several times a year and offers the latest information through lectures by experts in the field, as well as group support. 516-663-2772
Winthrop H.O.P.E.
Winthrop's Home Osteoporosis Program of Education (HOPE) is a course in assessing, treating and living with osteoporosis. It provides participants with personalized tools and direction for gaining control over the disease and keeping it from interfering with activities, such as remaining active with family and friends, and pursuing hobbies and interests.
Community Education
Center physicians and nurses - specialists in osteoporosis - are dedicated to increasing the understanding of the disease. They welcome opportunities to address professional and civic groups about all aspects of osteoporosis.
