Bone Mineral Research
The Bone Mineral Research Center focuses on both clinical and basic science aspects of bone metabolism. The basic science Metabolism Lab examines pathogenic mechanisms responsible for the development of skeletal fragility and osteoporosis.

CardioPulmonary Research Institute (CPRI)
Deepening its commitment to the support of medical research, Winthrop established the CPRI. A collaboration of laboratory scientists and physician-investigators, who are pulmonary, pediatric and cardiovascular specialists, the CPRI is pursuing a better understanding of heart and lung diseases through studies of cell development and function, as well as tissue injury, recovery and the role of heredity in the overall process. The goal is to prevent lung and heart damage in children and adults in order to improve survival and outcome.

Winthrop-University Hospital's Clinical Trials Center was established in 2001 to provide our patients with the most advanced treatment options and to provide medical staff at Winthrop with clinical trials support services that will enhance the quality and effectiveness of their research efforts.

Institutional Review Board (IRB)
Winthrop-University Hospital currently utilizes two Institutional Review Boards to ensure that all research projects involving humans conducted at Winthrop-University Hospital are performed in compliance with federal regulations. The two IRBs are Winthrop-University Hospital IRB (WUH IRB) and Western IRB (WIRB). WIRB reviews all outpatient pharmaceutically sponsored trials. Information for Western IRB can be found at http://www.wirb.com. The WUH IRB reviews all other research projects including; projects eligible for exempt status, expedited status, inpatient pharmaceutically sponsored trials, investigator initiated trials, and federally sponsored projects. Office of Health Outcomes Research
The Office of Health Outcomes Research at Winthrop-University Hospital investigates health care and its outcomes at the level of the patient, the clinician, the practice setting, the institution, the community, and society as a whole.
