Genetic Counseling Services
Through The Department of Pediatrics

Genetic counseling is available within the practice for patients who may have special concerns regarding an ongoing or potential pregnancy. Certified Genetic Counselors offer risk assessment, procedural information and psychosocial support for patients regarding:
  • Age-related risks for chromosome abnormalities (for women 35 or older at time of delivery).
  • Abnormal screening tests or ultrasound findings.
  • Family history of a known or suspected genetic condition.
  • History of multiple miscarriages.
  • Exposure to a medication or chemical agent during pregnancy.
  • Carrier screening based on ancestry, such as Eastern European Jewish descent.
  • Diagnostic prenatal testing (Chorionic Villus Sampling (CVS) or Amniocentesis).
  • Screening for Down Syndrome, Trisomy 18/13 and Spina Bifida through the maternal serum screening and/or genetic ultrasound.
