Cancer Navigator Program
A cancer diagnosis can be a life-altering challenge involving not only life-threatening medical conditions, but also complex psychosocial, insurance, employment and educational issues.
Winthrop’s Cancer Navigator Program offers individualized assistance to patients, families and caregivers, helping them move seamlessly through the many diagnostic tests, procedures, physician visits and treatments they face after learning they have cancer.
Cancer Navigators are nurses and physician assistants who specialize in the care of people with cancer. In addition to assisting patients from pre-diagnosis through all phases of the cancer experience, they also provide ongoing emotional support when it’s most needed.
Services include:
- Reducing or eliminating barriers to care, and paving the way for early and timely screenings and diagnostic tests which reduce morbidity and mortality
- Educating patients about treatment options
- Identifying and assisting with accessing financial, legal and community support services
- Connecting patients and families to support groups
