About Us

The Simulation Center at Winthrop University Hospital provides a range of educational services to Winthrop Hospital, Stony Brook Medical School, and the surrounding community. The simulation center is capable of housing task training focusing on specific skills, team training focusing on improving teamwork and communication, and standardized patient programs focused on interpersonal communication. Simulation training allows staff to practice and rehearse without the risk to a real patient. Simulation training provides an opportunity for feedback and reflection while training is videotaped and reviewed, allowing clinicians to reflect on and improve performance.

The Simulation Center at Winthrop University Hospital is currently located on the ground floor of 222 Station Plaza North. This temporary facility houses two conference/debriefing rooms, 2 standardized patient rooms, a large simulation suite capable of holding multiple patients, a control room, and staff offices. The permanent facility, being constructed in the new Academic and Research Building will be 5,000 sq. ft. and double the capacity of the current simulation center. The new facility is scheduled to open in late 2014.
