kutzin Jared M. Kutzin, DNP, MS, MPH, RN, CPPS

Dr. Kutzin is the Director of Simulation at Winthrop University Hospital. Previously, Dr. Kutzin was the Director of the Simulation Center at Saint Barnabas Medical Center (NJ) and the Director of Nursing & Clinical Simulation at the Institute for Medical Simulation and Advanced Learning (IMSAL), part of the New York City Health and Hospitals Corporation (NYCHHC).

Jared received a Bachelor�s degree in Community Health Education from Hofstra University and a Bachelor�s degree in Nursing from Columbia University. He then received a Master of Public Health degree from Boston University, a Doctor of Nursing Practice from the University of Massachusetts at Amherst, and a Master of Science in Medical Education Leadership from the University of New England College of Medicine.

He started his simulation career with the STRATUS Center for Medical Simulation at Brigham and Women's Hospital in Boston, MA, and is a past chair of the Nursing Section of the Society for Simulation in Healthcare (SSH). He currently serves on the SSH membership and certification Committees and chair�s the CHSE recertification process.

In 2012, Jared completed the clinical quality fellowship program (CQFP) offered by the Greater New York Hospital Association and United Hospital Fund where his project examined the process of getting blood to the bedside of hemorrhaging obstetrical patient. He continues to work clinically as an emergency nurse and is faculty at the New York Institute of Technology College of Medicine.

Jared has presented at and helped plan the International Meeting for Simulation in Healthcare (IMSH) and the National Patient Safety Foundation (NPSF) Annual Congress. He has presented at the Association of PeriOperative Registered Nurses (AORN) conference, the International Association for Clinical Simulation and Learning (INACSL) meeting, and many local and regional conferences and workshops.

Jared�s research interests include investigating the human factors that affect the quality and safety of healthcare, the quality and safety of prehospital care, and the use of simulation as an educational method.

kutzin Zach Milligan, EMT-CC
Simulation Technician/Coordinator

Zach Milligan is the simulation technician/coordinator. Zach is a critical care EMT (EMT-CC) and assistant chief of the Stony Brook Volunteer Ambulance Corps. Zach is completing his bachelor degree in Bio-Neuro Science at Stony Brook University. In his role at the simulation center, Zach is responsible for setting up and operating the simulation environment and equipment as well as coordinating various programmatic activities.

kutzin Joseph Mathew, MD
Medical Director

Dr. Mathew assumed this position in addition to being the medical director of Winthrop�s Respiratory Care Department. Dr. Mathew joins Winthrop following the completion a fellowship in Pulmonary Diseases & Critical Care Medicine at Beth Israel Medical Center in New York. Prior to that, he served as Chief Medical Resident at St. Luke�s-Roosevelt Hospital in New York where he completed his internal medicine training. He brings with him many specialized skills including expertise in Critical Care Ultrasonography, Bronchoscopy, Advanced Airway Management, Pleural Diseases and Simulation Training. Dr. Mathew is also involved in a number of important Hospital initiatives designed to improve patient care. An active researcher, Dr. Mathew has received numerous honors including the Young Investigator Award and Best Case Presentation Award at the American College of Chest Physicians� 2009 annual meeting. Dr. Mathew has also had many papers published in peer-reviewed journals. He is Board Certified in Critical Care Medicine, Pulmonary Medicine and Internal Medicine.
