    Winthrop's CME Mission

Winthrop's CME mission is to assist physicians in maintaining a contemporary base of scientific knowledge appropriate to their professional activities. Winthrop serves as a resource to attending staff and others in the medical profession, supported by WUH faculty and other experts in their respective fields, providing them with opportunities to stay abreast of valid developments in medicine and science which bear on their ability to render sound and compassionate care to their patients by effectively improving their practice.

Winthrop strives to be a comprehensive regional health care center that achieves excellence in patient care, medical education and research. The institution can only achieve this end if its medical staff maintains the highest levels of competency and has opportunities to participate in scholarly pursuits based on transparent, valid content - one of which is continuing medical education.

Because we have attracted nationally recognized faculty for our tertiary care clinical programs, we have the opportunity to provide educational outreach to a broader audience.

Our purpose is to assist members of the medical profession in addressing identified gaps in knowledge, competence and/or attitudes. The content of the CME activities spans primary and specialty care issues in all medical and surgical fields, as well as the full spectrum of ethical, social and psychological concerns that impact on health and well-being, presented transparent of commercial interests. Our target audience is comprised of primary and specialty physicians from across the United States, as well as our own geographic region. Our CME programs include a spectrum of activities designed with specific learning objectives and diverse learning styles in mind. These activities include lectures, clinical case conferences, clinical pathological conferences, hands-on workshops, and self-directed study.

Some programs meet their objectives through live presentations, others through print media, and others through computer-assisted instruction. Targeted outcomes of these initiatives are the increased quality of clinician performance and improved patient safety and health.
