Joseph Germano, DO, is currently the Director of Electrocardiography; Associate Director of the Electrophysiology; Director of the Atrial Fibrillation Center; and Associate Director of the Cardiovascular Training Program at Winthrop-University Hospital in Mineola, New York. He is an Assistant Professor of Medicine at Stony Brook Medical School. He runs a busy cardiovascular and electrophysiology practice and is skilled in the radiofrequency catheter ablation of arrhythmias as well as device implantation and extraction.

His postgraduate training included fellowship in cardiac electrophysiology at the Harvard-Thorndike Electrophysiology Institute of Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center (Harvard Medical School) in Boston. He completed fellowship training in cardiology at Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center in Boston as well as Winthrop-University Hospital, where he completed a residency and internship in internal medicine. He received his medical degree from the New York College of Osteopathic Medicine.

Dr. Germano is board certified as a Diplomat of the American Board of Internal Medicine in Medicine, Cardiovascular Disease and Clinical Cardiac Electrophysiology. He is a fellow of the American College of Cardiology and a member of the American Heart Association and the Heart Rhythm Society.

Dr. Germano has developed and teaches the curriculum for cardiac fellows, resident physicians and medical students in the fields of electrocardiography and electrophysiology. He started an annual electrophysiology educational series, Introduction to Cardiac Electrophysiology, which is in its third year. Dr. Germano won the Attending of the Year award for the division of cardiology in his first and third years at Winthrop for his educational contributions.

He has published several articles in professional journals and is an author for UpToDate online medical reference as well as Harvard Continuing Medical Education. He serves as a manuscript referee on several professional editorial boards. Dr. Germano is currently the Principal Investigator for numerous multi-center clinical trials. His research interests include invasive strategies for atrial fibrillation, complex device management and implantable defibrillator testing. He is active in the community and serves as the medical director of the Mineola Volunteer Ambulance Corps.
