George Gubernikoff, MD, Director of Clinical Cardiac Services at Winthrop-University Hospital, has nearly 20 years' experience in cardiac care, including anesthesiology and surgical critical care. Dr. Gubernikoff is also the Medical Director of Winthrop's Center for Aortic Diseases and has expertise in the management of patients with Marfan's Syndrome, bicuspid aortic valve and thoracic aortic aneurysms. Prior to joining Winthrop, he was an attending cardiologist at Northwestern Memorial Hospital and at the Lakeside Veterans Affairs Medical Center in Chicago.

Dr. Gubernikoff is a Diplomate of the American Board of Internal Medicine, Subspecialty of Cardiovascular Disease, and a Diplomate of the American Board of Anesthesiology, Subspecialty of Critical Care Medicine.

His postgraduate clinical training included fellowships in interventional cardiology and cardiology at Yale-New Haven Hospital, where he also completed a residency in internal medicine. He was a critical care medicine fellow at the University of Florida in Gainesville and completed a residency in anesthesiology at Columbia Presbyterian Medical Center. He earned his medical degree from the Mount Sinai School of Medicine.

Dr. Gubernikoff was an Assistant Professor of Medicine at the Northwestern University Medical School in Chicago.

A Fellow of the American College of Cardiology and active in cardiovascular research, he is interested in cardiac MRI imaging in acute myocardial infarction. Dr. Gubernikoff has presented papers at many professional conferences and published numerous articles in medical journals.

He also has extensive experience in medical education administration, and will assume the divisional leadership role in resident and student education.
