  • William P. Reed, MD
    Chairman, Department of Surgery

    William Reed, MD, is Chairman of the Department of Surgery. Prior to joining Winthrop, he was Vice Chair of the Department of Surgery at the SUNY School of Medicine at Stony Brook. He has also held positions at the Tufts University School of Medicine in Boston and the University of Maryland in Baltimore.

    Dr. Reed is Board Certified in Surgery and has certification in Advanced Cardiac Life Support and Advanced Trauma Support.

    His post-graduate training includes a fellowship in cancer surgery at the Institut Gustave-Roussy in France and a fellowship in renal transplantation at Stanford University Medical Center in California, where he also completed a residency and internship in general surgery.

    A member of many professional organizations and the author of numerous professional articles, Dr. Reed is involved in clinical research on breast and colon cancer, as well as hepatic surgery for the control of metastatic disease.
