The Department of Anesthesiology at Winthrop-University Hospital, under the Chairmanship of Joseph Greco, MD, strives to fulfill its primary mission of providing excellent anesthesia care for the patients of Winthrop-University Hospital and to provide the setting for educational development in the field of anesthesiology. Over ninety percent of the anesthesiologists in the Department are Diplomats of the American Board of Anesthesia (i.e. Board Certified). Although Board Certified Anesthesiologists can administer all types of anesthesia, the Department also has specialists in cardiac, obstetric and pediatric anesthesia, critical care and pain management.

The Department is responsible for providing anesthesia services for all patients in the hospitals’ operating rooms as well as for patients requiring anesthetics in Labor and Delivery, endoscopy, MRI/CT scans and special procedures.

The Winthrop Pain Management Center utilizes a multidisciplinary approach for the management of patients with both acute and chronic pain conditions.
