The Office of Sponsored Programs provides a variety of pre-and post-award services to faculty seeking extramural funding for Hospital projects. Assistance is available for funding searches, proposal/budget development and review, regulatory compliance, intellectual property management, and contract negotiation.
Alexander K. Schoen, MBA
Alex has been involved in Grants and Contracts since 1992 and has been Director of the Office of Sponsored Programs at Winthrop-University Hospital since 1998. He came to Winthrop-University Hospital from Long Island Jewish Medical Center where he was Assistant Director of the Office of Grants and Contracts.
Alex holds an Associate’s Degree in Applied Science from Rochester Institute of Technology in the field of Imaging and Photographic Science and a BBA and MBA from Hofstra University in the field of Management.
Beth A. McManus, MHA
Senior Grants Specialist
Beth McManus has been in the field of grants, contracts and fundraising for health care programs and research since 1990. She joined Winthrop’s Office of Sponsored Programs in 2004. Prior to that, she held the positions of Manager of Foundation and Corporate Relations for NARSAD - The Brain and Behavior Research Fund, Grants and Contracts Manager for the Zucker Hillside Hospital at Long Island Jewish Medical Center, and Management Analyst for the Nassau County Department of Health. Beth has also worked as a freelance medical writer for non-profits.
Beth holds a BA in English Literature from Fordham University and a Master’s in Health Administration from Hofstra University.
