Cancer Navigator Program at NYU Winthrop Hospital Center for Cancer Care

At the Forefront of Cancer Care

A diagnosis of cancer is a life-altering challenge for patients as well as their families. While balancing doctor appointments, hospital stays and treatments with everyday life, other issues arise involving emotional and social distress, insurance questions, employment and education challenges, and more.

Our Cancer Navigator Program is Here For You. And Your Family.

NYU Winthrop’s Cancer Navigator Program offers personalized assistance to patients, families and caregivers throughout the cancer journey, from pre-diagnosis through treatment, and beyond.

Cancer Navigators are nurses who specialize in the care of people with cancer, helping them move seamlessly through the many diagnostic tests, procedures, physician visits and treatments they face after a diagnosis of cancer.

In addition to assisting patients from pre-diagnosis through all phases of the cancer experience, they also provide ongoing emotional support when it’s needed most.

At no cost to our patients, our professional patient navigation services help to:

  • Reduce or eliminate barriers to care, and pave the way for early and timely screenings and diagnostic tests which reduce morbidity and mortality
  • Facilitate coordination of testing, treatment and follow up care
  • Provide education about cancer and treatment options
  • Identify and assist with accessing financial, legal and community support services
  • Provide emotional support and guidance
  • Make referrals to oncology social workers, support groups and provide additional resources as needed
  • Serve as a liaison for the cancer patient and family with physicians and other healthcare providers

Our Cancer Navigator Team

NYU Winthrop’s Patient navigation team is available to assist patients who are dealing with a diagnosis of pancreatic, gastrointestinal, cutaneous, colorectal, head & neck, thyroid, gynecological, hematological, prostate, bladder, kidney, breast and lung cancers.
