Winthrop-University Hospital’s Division of Cardiology, together with Winthrop’s Board of Regents, recently hosted a “Master Class” on heart-healthy eating while introducing the latest initiative within the Division – The Center for Cardiovascular Lifestyle Medicine. Under the expert leadership of Barbara George, EdD, MSN, RCEP, RN, Director of the Center for Cardiovascular Lifestyle Medicine at Winthrop, this nurse-led program combines the skills and experience of a multidisciplinary team of experts with evidence-based exercise, diet, behavioral health and stress management interventions critical to preventing and treating cardiovascular disease.
The event took place on September 27, 2013, at Hampton Appliance in Garden City and featured Cardiac Chef Kevin Marzo, MD, Chief of the Division of Cardiology at Winthrop, and his Sous Chef, Joseph Dardano, PA.

Attendees gathered around a state-of-the-art demonstration kitchen as they learned about healthy lifestyle choices, including how to shop for and prepare nutritious meals, while enjoying a gourmet, four-course, heart-healthy meal.
