Local Kiwanis Club Shows Continued Support for NYU Winthrop

(L.-R.) Kiwanis Club of County Seat, Mineola, Inc. President Richard Forte; Warren Rosenfeld, MD, Chairman of the Department of Pediatrics at NYU Winthrop; Nicole Almeida, MS, CCLS, Director of the Child Life Program at NYU Winthrop; Shari Prinstein, Assistant Director of Special Events at NYU Winthrop; and Stephan Parmett, Past President and Member of the Board of Directors of the Kiwanis Club of County Seat, Mineola, Inc.

Every day at NYU Winthrop, certified child life specialists utilize supervised play and education to improve patients' understanding of medical procedures, teach relaxation techniques to help young patients cope with illness or surgery and provide emotional support for the entire family.

The Child Life Program at NYU Winthrop is supported in its entirety by philanthropic contributions, and it is the generous support of individuals and groups like The Kiwanis Club of County Seat, Mineola, Inc., which continue to make the program possible. Recently, members of the organization visited the Hagedorn Pediatric Inpatient Center to present a check in the amount of $2,500 to once again show their support for this vital program.

"We are so thankful that the Kiwanis Club of County Seat, Mineola, Inc. continues to think of our program as a beneficiary of their generosity," said Nicole Almeida, MS, CCLS, Director of the Child Life Program at NYU Winthrop.

All children, whether just days old or in their teens, benefit greatly from contact with one of NYU Winthrop's Child Life Specialists. Child Life Specialists are available in the Hospital's Pediatric Emergency Unit, the Cancer Center for Kids Outpatient Center, the Pediatric Specialty Center and the Hagedorn Pediatric Inpatient Center.
