A Cause to Celebrate Raises Nearly $115,000 for Child Life Program

In the spirit of the “Long Live the Beatles” theme of the evening, 250 guests “came together” at The Garden City Hotel on March 31, 2016 to show their support for NYU Winthrop Hospital ’s Child Life Program at the 19th Annual “A Cause to Celebrate.” The event, marked by fine dining and an exciting musical performance by The Mahoney Brothers, raised nearly $115,000 for the program.

The event honored Ronald V. Marino, DO, MPH, Associate Chairman of Pediatrics at NYU Winthrop, a seasoned expert and highly esteemed member of the Hospital’s medical staff. Dr. Marino has long been an advocate for the Child Life Program.

“I have had the privilege of seeing our community come together for many years to raise funds for the Child Life Program,” said Dr. Marino. “The services of this program bring light and joy to our pediatric patients and their families during a time of need.”

“It was only fitting that this year, we honored a man who has contributed so much to the Child Life Program,” said Nicole Almeida, MS, CCLS, Director of NYU Winthrop’s Child Life Program. “We are also deeply appreciative to all those who have supported this event over the years to ensure the Child Life team can continue to meet the unique psychosocial needs of our pediatric patients and their families.”

Guests enjoyed a lovely cocktail hour followed by a sit-down dinner in the main ballroom. The Mahoney Brothers brought the crowd to its feet during their outstanding musical performance, which covered some of the Beatles greatest hits. Attendees also had an opportunity to participate in a community and silent auction, featuring items donated by local vendors.

A Cause to Celebrate is a pivotal annual event that garners the community’s support for NYU Winthrop’s Child Life Program. Since its inception in 1998, A Cause to Celebrate has raised almost $1.5 million for the program.
