NYU Winthrop Hospital is consistently recognized for its quality patient care, and an abundance of recent national awards and designations are further testament to this commitment to our patients. NYU Winthrop is pleased to share these recent honors, which continue to solidify the Hospital’s reputation in the region as a leader in outstanding medical care.
NYU Winthrop recently received national recognition for excellence in nursing from the American Nurses Credentialing Center’s (ANCC) Magnet Recognition Program®. This is a major national achievement accomplished by a very small number of hospitals worldwide and considered the gold standard in nursing excellence (see back page for more information on this prestigious recognition).
NYU Winthrop is honored to be deemed “Meritorious” by the American College of Surgeons National Surgical Quality Improvement Program® (ACS NSQIP), one of 52 ACS NSQIP participating hospitals that have achieved meritorious outcomes for surgical patient care. As a participant in ACS NSQIP, NYU Winthrop is required to track the outcomes of inpatient and outpatient surgical procedures and collect data that measures patient safety and the quality of surgical care improvements.
The ACS NSQIP recognition program commends a select group of hospitals for achieving meritorious outcome performances related to patient management in eight clinical areas: Mortality, Cardiac, Unplanned Intuba- tion, Ventilator > 48 hours, Renal Failure, Respiratory, Surgical Site Infections (SSI), or Urinary Tract Infection (UTI). NYU Winthrop achieved this prestigious distinction based on its outstanding composite quality score in these areas. ACS NSQIP is the only nationally validated quality improvement program that measures and enhances the care of surgical patients.
NYU Winthrop has once again been recog- nized by U.S. News & World Report for 2015-16. For “Best Regional Hospitals Recognitions,” NYU Winthrop was recognized in the following specialties: Gastroenterology & GI Surgery; Geriatrics; Neurology & Neurosurgery; and Urology. Two pediatric specialties were also named to the national “Best Children’s Hospitals” Rankings: Pulmo- nology and Diabetes & Endocrinology. For the “Best Hospitals for Common Care” category, NYU Winthrop achieved a High-Performing Rating in both Hip Replacement and Heart Failure.
The annual U.S. News “Best” rankings recognize hospitals that excel in treating the most challenging patients, and NYU Winthrop is proud to once again earn its rightful place among the best hospitals in the region.
Healthgrades, the nation’s most trusted source of healthcare provider information, has once again named NYU Winthrop a Distin- guished Hospital for Clinical ExcellenceTM, placing NYU Winthrop among the top five percent of hospitals nationwide for clinical perform- ance. NYU Winthrop was also again listed as one of America’s 50 Best Hospitals for Cardiac Surgery; 100 Best Hospitals for Coronary Intervention; 100 Best Hospitals for Cardiac Care; 100 Best Hospitals for Gastrointestinal Care; 100 Best Hospitals for General Surgery; 100 Best Hospitals for Pulmonary Care, along with many other Healthgrades distinctions.
NYU Winthrop continues to lead the way when it comes to first-rate women’s health programs. The Hospital was recently recog- nized by Becker’s Hospital Review as one of the 2015 “Top 100 Hospitals with Great Women’s Health Programs.” The Women’s Choice Award® sets the standard for helping women make smart choices through education, empowerment and validation. Determined by evidence- based research, NYU Winthrop has been awarded the 2016 Women’s Choice Best Hospitals Awards in the following categories: Bariatric Surgery; Heart Care; Cancer Care; Ortho- pedics; and America’s Best Breast Centers.
NYU Winthrop has once again been desig- nated one of the Top 500 Home Health Agencies of the 2015 HomeCare EliteTM – a compilation of the top-performing home health agencies in the United States. This is the fifth time NYU Winthrop has been rated as a Top 500 Agency. Five domains of performance are cumulatively analyzed – quality of care, quality of improvement and consistency, patient experience, process measure imple- mentation and financial performance. Agency performance in each of the domains was compared against the performance of other organizations in their state and nationwide.
The NYU Winthrop Vascular Surgery Center, which expanded recently and added a custom designed, state of the art office for outpatient vascular surgical and diagnostic services at 200 Old Country Road, Suite 120 in Mineola, received final accreditation from the American Association for Accreditation of Ambulatory Surgery Facilities (AAAASF), the gold standard in accreditation.
NYU Winthrop, a New York State Department of Health designated Primary Stroke Center, was recently recognized once again by the American Heart Association and American Stroke Association’s Get With The Guidelines® Program(GWTG)withthe Gold PLUS Target Stroke Honor Role Achievement Award for stroke patient care. GWTG is a quality improvement program that helps hospitals ensure that patients consistently receive cardiac and stroke care in accordance with the most up-to-date scientific guidelines and recommendations. Honored at the International Stroke Conference in February, this is the 10th GWTG award NYU Winthrop has received since 2005 – a remarkable accomplishment!
