The Kornreich Family Makes Donation in Honor of Young Patient

The Kornreich family made another special donation recently. After John Kornreich met the Falabella family, whose little girl, Alexandra, passed away from cancer in 2009 at the age of 9, he wanted to do something to honor her memory. Thanks to the Kornreich’s generous donation, children at NYU Winthrop’sCancer Center for Kids can now play and learn in Lexie’s Corner, a learning and resource center named for Alexandra. Since the rigors of cancer treatment often get in the way of a mainstream academic experience for pediatric patients, Lexie’s Corner features tools for both “classroom time” and “recess” that will help children develop age-appropriate skills. Lexie’s Corner has an Xbox, a Wii, Legos to work on fine motor skills, books and more.

(L.-R.) Brianne Gruber, Psy. D, Child Psychologist at The Cancer Center for Kids; Kim Krupta, Child Life Specialist; LeaAnn and and Joseph Falabella with their children, Ava and Anthony, holding a picture of their sister Alexandra; Janet and John Kornreich; Mark Weinblatt, MD, Chief of Pediatric Hematology and Oncology and Director of The Cancer Center for Kids, gather in Lexie's Corner.
