It is with deep respect and admiration that The Board of Directors, Administration and Medical Staff of NYU Winthrop Hospital dedicate this edition of Cornerstone to our beloved colleague, medical leader and friend, Michael Ammazzalorso, MD, MACP, who recently passed away following a long battle with pancreatic cancer.
Dr. Ammazzalorso was a member of the NYU Winthrop Medical Staff since 1995, most recently serving as our Vice President of the Medical Staff and Chief Medical Officer. Throughout his illustrious medical career, Dr. Ammazzalorso was consistently recognized for his outstanding commitment and service to both patients and medical students. He was a Master of the American College of Physicians, an honor granted to only a handful of physicians by the nation’s largest medical specialty society.
If ever there was a member of the Medical Staff who embodied the tripartite mission of NYU Winthrop- University Hospital, it was Dr. Ammazzalorso. His deep commitment and passion for quality medicine, education and research, coupled with his gentle spirit and utmost compassion for the well-being of his patients, was a guiding light for his students and colleagues alike.
Dr. Ammazzalorso touched so many lives at NYU Winthrop with his decency, kindness and integrity, and he is sorely missed by all those who had the distinct privilege of knowing and working beside him each day.
A fund has been established in Dr. Ammazzalorso’s name for Pancreatic Cancer Research at NYU Winthrop. Individuals who wish to contribute can direct gifts to:
