Recently, members of Winthrop-University Hospital’s surgical, neurosurgical and cardiothoracic teams gathered at a special luncheon to celebrate the vast achievements of Floral Park resident, Lauren Naab, PA, and Bethpage resident, William Holecek, PA, both of whom recently completed Winthrop’s Post Graduate Physician Assistant (PA) Residency Program in Surgical Critical Care Medicine.
The Program – now going into its fifth year – is designed to provide PAs with the advanced knowledge and technical skills necessary to implement evidence-based management and care of patients with critical illness and injury. Throughout the year, Ms. Naab and Mr. Holecek worked closely with staff throughout Winthrop’s Departments of Surgery, Neurosciences and Cardiology, participating in patient rounds, operative procedures and patient care conferences, and being involved in all phases of patient care. Lauren will continue her career at Winthrop in the TCV/General Surgery Departments and William has taken a position at St. Francis Hospital in the Department of Critical Care.
“The goal of our Residency Program is to train the Physician Assistant to be an extraordinary practitioner in the field of surgical critical care medicine. It is through the interface of teaching, intense clinical training, ethical awareness, and a strong dedication to the Physician Assistant profession that this can be accomplished,” said Frank Rizzuto, RPA-C, Program Director. “We congratulate Lauren and William on their accomplishments and wish them much continued success.”
