Free "Understanding Dementia" Program Offered by NYU Winthrop Hospital

Mineola, NY – NYU Winthrop Hospital’s Division of Geriatric Medicine is offering a free lecture sponsored by the NYU Winthrop Judith Haas Fund; "Beyond the Basics: Understanding Dementia" on Wednesday, April 18, 2018 at 7 PM in the NYU Winthrop Research and Academic Center located at 101 Mineola Blvd., Mineola N.Y. in room G-018A. This lecture is open to the community and is especially worthwhile for those caring for a loved one with dementia. The program will feature guest speaker Melanie Bunn, RN, MS, who will cover the following topics:

  • The basics of dementia – understanding the effects of the disease on the brain and how it influence approaches to care.
  • Understanding the challenges of care by understanding the perspective of the person suffering from dementia.
  • Positive approaches to care that can easily be shared with other family members.
