Mineola, NY - NYU Winthrop Hospital’s Perinatal Bereavement Team invites you to join in support of family and friends whose lives have been touched by the tragic loss of a baby at the 14th Annual Walk to Remember on Saturday, October 14, 2017 at Twin Ice Rinks (adjacent to the Aquatic Center in Eisenhower Park) in East Meadow at 9:00 a.m. (Please note this location is different than previous years.)Some of the participants of NYU Winthrop Hospital’s 13th Annual Walk to Remember.
The annual memorial event, "The Walk to Remember," coincides with National Pregnancy and Infant Loss Awareness month, and aims to increase the community's understanding of the grief associated with the loss of a baby. The event enables parents, relatives and friends who have lost a child due to pregnancy complications, stillbirth, early infant loss or fetal abnormalities to walk in remembrance of their beloved baby. The event includes a special candle lighting/naming memorial service, and a 1 mile walk to the Angel of Hope. Light refreshments are also provided. At the conclusion of the walk, special certificates of remembrance are given to each family.
This year families are also invited and welcome to stay for ice skating after the event ($5 per person on the day of; kids under 5 skate free).
A donation of $15 per person is suggested by October 10, 2017. Children under 12 years of age may participate in the walk for free. All proceeds benefit NYU Winthrop's Perinatal Bereavement Team, which is dedicated to providing education, comfort and support to help families cope with the loss of a child.
