Jonah Feldman, MDPlainview resident and Winthrop-University Hospital internal medicine specialist Jonah Feldman, MD, has received the distinct honor of being elected by special invitation a Fellow of the American College of Physicians (ACP).

“Fellowship by invitation is an honor reserved for distinguished physicians who have demonstrated an outstanding commitment to our specialty as clinicians, educators, scholars and leaders,” said Nick Fitterman, MD, FACP, NYACP Governor – Long Island Region. “Election to Fellowship is a continuation of ACP’s tradition of honoring excellence in the practice of medicine and recognizing contributions to the profession.”

All Fellows are internists and subspecialists who have been recognized by the ACP for personal integrity, superior competence, professional accomplishment and demonstrated scholarship. Fellowship by invitation, however, is something very special.

“It is a prestigious honor for Dr. Feldman to be elected by special invitation for ACP Fellowship after only two years as a specialist in Internal Medicine,” said Nicholas Berbari, MD, FACP, Senior Associate Program Director of Winthrop’s Internal Medicine Residency Program, and Medical Director of Winthrop Internal Medicine Associates. “We are fortunate for all the contributions that Dr. Feldman makes to patient care, resident and student education, as well as quality improvement and research at Winthrop Internal Medicine Associates and throughout Winthrop-University Hospital.”

In addition to his roles as an Attending Physician in Winthrop’s Department of Internal Medicine, and serving as the Associate Program Director for the Hospital’s Internal Medicine Residency Program, Dr. Feldman has been involved in a number of important initiatives and committees at Winthrop where he has worked hard to promote systems-based practices that both advance patient care and improve publicly reported outcomes. He is also Firm Chief on the Medical Floor in Winthrop’s Department of Medicine. Dr. Feldman is also an Assistant Professor of Clinical Medicine at Stony Brook University School of Medicine and is the Internal Medicine Site Director for Stony Brook University’s Advanced Clinical Experience Clerkship.

Dr. Feldman is board certified in General Internal Medicine, and is a member of the ACP and the Association of Program Directors in Internal Medicine (APDIM).  He serves on the New York Chapter of the ACP’s Young Physicians and Health Information Technology Committees and participates in a NYACP Task Force on Patient Center Medical Homes and Accountable Care Organizations.

Dr. Feldman is an ordained Rabbi. He received his undergraduate degree in Mathematics from Yeshiva University, where he also pursued postgraduate studies to complete a rabbinic degree from the institution’s Theological Seminary. He earned his Medical Doctorate at Stony Brook University’s School of Medicine in 2008, and completed his Internship and Residency in Internal Medicine at Winthrop.

The American College of Physicians is the second-largest physician group in the United States. Membership includes more than 137,000 internists, related subspecialists, and medical students. Internists are specialists in the prevention, detection, and treatment of illnesses in adults.
