Anthony Vintzileos, MD, Chairman of Obstetrics and Gynecology at Winthrop-University HospitalMineola, NY – Locust Valley resident Anthony Vintzileos, MD, Chairman of Obstetrics and Gynecology at Winthrop-University Hospital, has been named a Deputy Editor for Obstetrics for the American Journal of Obstetrics & Gynecology. Previously, Dr. Vintzileos served as an Associate Editor for the Journal which publishes original research (clinical and translational), reviews, opinions, video clips, podcasts and interviews on health and disease-related topics that have the potential to change the practice of women’s healthcare.

“This is an important academic appointment and I am honored to represent Winthrop-University Hospital in this role,” said Dr. Vintzileos. “My goal is to ensure publication of the best quality obstetrical studies and articles so that ultimately, patient care can be improved.”

Dr. Vintzileos is an outstanding Maternal-Fetal Medicine specialist whose deep knowledge and vast clinical experience has been a tremendous asset to Winthrop since joining the medical staff in 2007. Under his leadership, Winthrop has become one of the premier childbirth institutions in the region. He helped create the first and only fetal surgery program on Long Island, and Winthrop’s neo-natal intensive care unit is nationally recognized for its superior outcomes. Prior to coming to Winthrop, Dr. Vintzileos served as Professor and Chair of the Department of Obstetrics, Gynecology & Reproductive Sciences at UMDNJ-Robert Wood Johnson Medical School.

A Diplomat of the American Board of Obstetrics and Gynecology (ABOG), Dr. Vintzileos is also certified by the Division of Maternal-Fetal Medicine, ABOG. He has been a steady supporter of the literature in the area of Maternal-Fetal Medicine and tireless academic contributor during various annual scientific meetings. Dr. Vintzileos, a sought after expert on various topics related to the field of Maternal-Fetal Medicine, fetal behavior and obstetrical ultrasonography, has authored and co-authored 368 peer-reviewed articles, 75 non-peer-reviewed articles, 61 book chapters, five books and 513 abstracts/scientific presentations. In fact, much of his published research on electronic fetal heart rate monitoring, the fetal biophysical profile, preterm premature rupture of the membranes, genetic sonography, fetal anomalies, growth restriction and preterm birth has been introduced into standard obstetrical practices today.

In addition to his most recent appointment as Deputy Editor for the American Journal of Obstetrics & Gynecology, Dr. Vintzileos is a member of the editorial board for several other medical journals including The Journal of Ultrasound in Medicine and The Journal of Maternal Fetal & Neonatal Medicine.
