Friends and neighbors of Winthrop-University Hospital, local officials, Hospital administration and staff gathered on December 18 in the Hospital’s Serenity Chapel to mark the celebration of Hanukkah with the lighting of the menorah.
Following a welcome by Reverend Karen Jones, Director of Pastoral Care at Winthrop, and greetings by John Collins, President and CEO at Winthrop, Rabbi Anchelle Perl of Congregation Beth Sholom of Mineola, shared his sentiments and wishes for a blessed holiday season to all those in attendance.
“We light the candles as a way of lighting the candle in everyone this season,” he said.
Winthrop staff and doctors assisted Rabbi Perl in the lighting of the menorah, before celebrating with refreshments.
“The holidays force all of us to take time from our hectic lives to slow down and enjoy the simple things – time with our loved ones and friends and creating special memories with them,” said Mr. Collins. “It’s also a time of giving – and most importantly, giving back to others who need it most.”
