- May 11, 2011
In an outstanding show of support for Winthrop-University Hospital’s Child Life Program, 300 guests gathered at the Garden City Hotel on March 24, 2011 to enjoy an evening marked by fine dining and an incredible musical performance by internationally renowned vocalist Ronan Tynan. A Cause to Celebrate (formerly known as Opera Night) was the most successful gathering of its kind to-date in the event’s 14-year history – raising $120,000 for Winthrop’s Child Life Program.
Guests enjoyed a lovely cocktail hour followed by a sit-down dinner in the main ballroom as Mr. Tynan delivered a magnificent vocal performance. Attendees also had an opportunity to participate in an exciting raffle and silent auction, featuring beautiful items donated by local vendors.
A Cause to Celebrate is a pivotal annual event that garners the community’s support for Winthrop’s Child Life Program, through which specially trained Child Life Specialists help children and their families understand and cope with hospitalization. A vital program across the full spectrum of inpatient, outpatient and emergency services at Winthrop, Child Life is supported in its entirety by philanthropic contributions.
“Year after year, the ongoing generosity of countless individuals who have supported this event has helped enable Winthrop’s Child Life Program to continue to meet the unique psychosocial needs of our pediatric patients and their families,” said Warren Rosenfeld, MD, Chairman of Pediatrics at Winthrop.
