For the fifth consecutive year, Winthrop-University Hospital’s Home Health Agency has been named to the HomeCare Elite– a compilation of the top-performing home health agencies in the United States. This annual review identifies the top 25 percent of agencies, ranked by an analysis of performance measures in quality outcomes, process of care measures, and financial performance, and is the only performance recognition of its kind in the home health industry.

“It is increasingly challenging to manage the cost/quality equation. The 2011 HomeCare Elite winners demonstrate a commitment to providing patients with the best possible care while managing their business efficiently and effectively,” said Amanda Twiss, CEO of OCS and My InnerView, a component of the National Research Corporation. “This year, we updated our methodology to reflect industry focus and, based on this rigorous analysis, we congratulate Winthrop-University Hospital on being one of the top home care agencies in the country.”

“It is through our staff’s clinical expertise and team approach to patient care that Winthrop’s Home Health Agency consistently provides this recognized level of excellence. This award is a testament to our outstanding staff and the patient-centered care for which Winthrop home care is known,” said Anne Calvo, RN, BSN, MPS, Administrator/Director of Patient Services, Winthrop-University Hospital’s Home Health Agency.

The 2011 HomeCare Elite is brought to the industry by OCS HomeCare, the leading provider of homecare information, and DecisionHealth, publisher of the industry’s most respected independent newsletter Home Health Line and the Complete Home Health ICD-9-CM Diagnosis Coding Manual.

Winthrop’s Home Health Agency offers a seamless continuum of post-hospital care, aimed at allowing patients to maintain independence and quality of life at home while recuperating or managing an illness. With a staff of 200, Winthrop’s Home Health Agency logs more than 100,000 home visits annually and provides in-home care including nursing, social and therapeutic rehabilitative services for patients ranging from newborn to geriatric. From physical therapy following joint replacement and post-partum care for new mothers to chemotherapy for cancer patients, Winthrop’s Home Health Agency can meet the vast majority of patients’ needs at home. With preventing rehospitilization as one of the Agency’s goals, the staff spends a great deal of time educating patients about self care, disease prevention, nutrition and medication management in order to slow disease progression and avoid unnecessary hospitalization. The agency also offers a home telemonitoring program – a remote monitoring program that enables patients to take an active role in their care under the daily supervision of a skilled team of clinicians.
