More than 200 students from Baldwin High School, Massapequa High School, Mineola High School, Sacred Heart Academy in Hempstead, and Westbury High School visited Winthrop-University Hospital’s Community Outreach Center on March 16 to participate in a Healthcare Career Fair, an initiative designed to introduce students to careers in healthcare, as well as to provide them with information about healthy living.

Students had an opportunity to visit display tables where staff from more than 20 Winthrop departments including Nursing, Respiratory Therapy, Pathology, Clinical Informatics, Orthopaedics, Human Resources, and Marketing and Public Relations, among others, spoke to students about their specific job responsibilities and the various career opportunities in the healthcare field as well as the educational requirements. In addition, representatives from A Step Ahead Prosthetics were on site to provide educational information to students about the growing field of prosthetics and orthotics. Students also had the chance to watch demonstrations of casting for broken limbs, and Clinical Informatics demonstrated how technology improves patient care and patient safety.

“Winthrop-University Hospital was pleased to host such a successful event for high school students, and we look forward to future events that will provide even more students with the same opportunity to learn about the vast career choices in the healthcare field,” said Diane Bachor, Director of Grants and Special Programs at Winthrop.
